About the Teacher

My name is Leanne Walstra, and I'm starting my 14th year with Desoto County Schools.  (I was married in March 2020, and my last name changed from "Nowell" to "Walstra".),  My first job was teaching computer class at Pleasant Hill Elementary where I now teach 5th grade math and science.  Two years ago, I took a year off from the classroom and worked as an instructional coach for Southaven Intermediate and Lake Cormorant Elementary Schools.  It was a great experience working with some amazing teachers, but I'm back home now doing what I love best...teaching students.  

My education includes a Bachelor's of Business Administration in Accounting degree from The University of Memphis, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Belhaven University. I have two grown sons that both graduated from the University of Mississippi, so I'm a Tiger fan first and an Ole Miss fan second.  I also have two sweet dogs, Nicco and Punkin.  

I'm so excited about this school year!  Together, we can make this the best year ever.
